Jay Fai meets Iris Apfel – Contrast as Concept
Inspired by street food legend Jay Fai and style icon Iris Apfel, we created two opposing areas connected by strategic architectural openings that allow the space to be experienced as a unified whole.

In Basel, Nooch faced a unique architectural challenge: merging two narrow, historic spaces into a single restaurant without feeling confined. GALA Design responded with a concept that tells a story: a spatial journey through two distinct worlds, a vibrant street food kitchen and a warm, intimate red lounge.

Smart Design for Challenging Layouts

Nostalgia Meets Character

Nooch Basel demonstrates how hospitality interior design goes beyond aesthetics to integrate brand identity, atmosphere, and operational flow. The deliberate break between the raw street food zone and the plush lounge creates visual tension while allowing for diverse guest experiences within a single location.
Instead of matching the new area to the old, we developed a complementary second interior. Two nearly identical floor plans are transformed into a powerful visual narrative: not as rivals, but as characters that complete each other.
Quality design translates a brand’s story into a physical space, strengthening customer loyalty while optimizing seating efficiency and guest flow. At Nooch Basel, design is a strategic tool for both experience and profitability.
To avoid being generic. A strong concept preserves the brand DNA while responding to the specific building and local culture, creating a unique "Sense of Place" within a consistent national brand.
