From Slaughterhouse to Organic Sanctuary

Architectural interior design showcasing organic forms and natural light

Few associate an old slaughterhouse with fresh organic produce. Our mission: the radical adaptive reuse of a former butchery into a modern zero-waste store. GALA transformed dark, industrial spaces into a bright, inviting shopping experience that makes sustainability physically tangible through architecture.

Radical Transformation: From Blood to Bio

We gutted the old butchery completely. Instead of cold tiles, we introduced warm tones and open structures that fill the space with new, sustainable life.

Lighting & Customer Journey

How do you guide customers without signs? Through light. Our concept uses nudging to draw visitors in, using bright product accents and dark ceilings to increase the joy of discovery.

Project Insights: Zero-Waste Retail Design

Kilo + Gramm proves that "eco" doesn't have to look makeshift. GALA Design developed a Corporate Architecture that applies high-end retail standards to the zero-waste concept. Through adaptive reuse, we saved resources while creating a unique brand story that builds deep emotional customer loyalty.

The Design Concept: Sustainability as an Experience

We didn't hide the building's industrial past; we transformed it. Raw industrial elements were paired with biophilic materials like wood, plants, and clay plaster. The result is a space that feels "honest", mirroring the transparency of the products sold within.

GALA Services List:

  • Retail Strategy: Developing a store concept that harmonizes hygiene with premium aesthetics.
  • Adaptive Reuse: Sustainable repurposing of existing building fabric to preserve embodied energy.
  • Lighting Design: Strategic psychological lighting to navigate and enhance the customer journey.
  • Material Innovation: Developing custom surface treatments for natural materials in food environments.

The Added Value

From "Butchery" to "Local Hub": A design that lowers entry barriers, increases dwell time, and makes sustainability highly desirable.

Frequently Asked Questions: Sustainable Retail

Through custom glass protection and washable matte surfaces that communicate cleanliness without feeling sterile or clinical.

The total conversion of the slaughterhouse. Floors and walls required deep cleaning and specialized resealing to fully displace the industrial heritage of the former butchery.

Through clear spatial zoning (Dry Goods vs. Fresh produce) and a lighting concept that eliminates "dead zones" and encourages natural browsing.
